Since the last two tournaments in Houston I spent lot of time practicing and playing with my former Cameron teammates under the supervision of Jerry Hrnciar. I spent lot more time on the course than on the practice tee since I have been hitting the ball well. I just needed to refresh my memory on how to score around the course.
The Cameron Golf Team was qualifying for last two weeks and I joined them for every round. This was for me as close as one can possibly get to a golf tournament. All the Cameron players are playing their hardest to make the team for the first tournament. The qualifying put me in a tournament like atmosphere to practice my scoring skills. I cannot ask for much more than that. My scores during those two weeks were impressive and consistent at the same time. By the end of the second week of qualifying I felt like I was ready to compete with anyone.
When making arrangements for the Adams Tour tournaments in March I talked to some other players and they mentioned to me that there is a small tournament at TPC Craig Ranch which is put up by the North Texas PGA. I did not hesitate and went signed up the very next day, which happened to be the deadline as well.
During the practice round, which was Sunday, February 27th, the weather was pretty good but with strong south winds. I was one of the first groups to tee off the first day. When teeing off it was 43 degrees with north winds around 30 mph. We were basically playing different golf course than during the practice round. I played very well the first day. I was very disciplined and shot 71 (-1) which put me only 3 shots of the leader.
The second day the weather was cooperating. It was lot warmer with light south winds. I did not have the best start, triple bogey on the first on three more bogeys on the front nine. The back nine was a completely different story with 7 fairways hit and 9 greens in regulation. I was firing at the pins and shot 33 for the total 73 (+1). I finished even par for the tournament which put me in T7th place. Even par might not seem like a very impressive score to some people but there are couple of factors to consider. The course was just under 7500 yards and has a course rating of 77.3. We played it in cold temperatures when the ball does not travel as far.
I am very pleased how I played this tournament and am looking forward to the first regular season tournament of the Adams Tour in Alexandria, Louisiana.
