Some of you might wonder why some of the clubs in bag are so old. I am still playing the old 731 PM irons and the Cleveland HiBore hybrid. It is not that I have not tried anything new since I bought them but nothing fit me as well. I have had the Titleist ZM and MB irons with Project X and Rifle shaft since then but none of those fit my swing. Also I have had couple more hybrids but none of those seemed to fit better than the Cleveland hybrid.
I have never been fitted for my clubs outside of lie, length, and grip size. Even at demo days I went to in the past all the left-handed clubs most manufacturers had, were intended for weekend players. So I could not try many players clubs. I was forced to guess when I was purchasing new clubs and sometime the clubs ended up working for me but most of the time they ended up in the garage. I was not very concerned about my clubs because I thought that the ones that I decided to put in my bag suit me pretty well. It was not till the Czech Open when I realized that I am probably nowhere close to the right fit, especially with my woods. It seemed like when the other PROs hit their ball into the wind it did not climb as mine; Instead, it just kept going forward. I noticed the same at Cypress Lakes when I watched some of the better players hit balls. When I asked them, they all told me the same answer; they all have been fitted for their clubs to achieve the perfect trajectory.
I started researching and found a place in Oklahoma City that does tour fitting for a very reasonable price, Ball Golf Center. I drove to OKC today and was impressed how much difference proper fitting has made. When I hit my old driver on the launch monitor the numbers were nowhere close to where they are supposed to be. My launch was too low and the spin was too high. After trying few driver head and shaft combinations I found the right fit for me. The same scenario happened with all of my clubs. I can recommend everyone to pay extra few dollars for proper fitting instead of wasting money on new clubs that might work for you. I personally cannot wait till I will be able to play with the ones I got fitted for on the golf course.
