LAWTON, Oklahoma – The Lone Star Conference named former Cameron student-athletes Peter Svajlen and Ashton McBride LSC Scholar Athletes of the Year. Svajlen was also honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) with the ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-American award.
On the field for the Aggies, McBride had 11 extra base hits and 17 RBIs along with winning 10 games in the circle, while striking out 54 batters in 136 innings. The Ponder, Texas, native also was honored by the LSC when she named to the North Division All-Academic Team and honorable mention all-conference.
Svajlen, meanwhile, has already picked up All-American status for his work on the links and classroom. On the golf course, Svajlen finished the season with an impressive stroke average and ended his college career with an T8th place finish at the NCAA Championship in May.
This summer Svajlen will participate in his first professional tournament in Europe. He also has participated in the World Amateur twice and the World Intercollegiate in South Africa and was runner-up in the Russian Amateur.
To be eligible for the LSC honor the student-athletes must have completed their eligibility and competed two years in their sport. For the CoSIDA award an athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed on the nomination form. In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched.
